Artists in residence: Where Dogs Run
The artist collective Where Dogs Run, originating from the industrial city of Yekaterinburg east of the Ural Mountains, consists of Natalia, Olga, and Alexey. The group’s works have received international recognition and were presented in Vienna for the first time.
The focus of the collective’s artistic practice lies in the field of technological art. They combine scientific and technical apparatuses, low-tech aesthetics, and innovative forms of visual representation. Conceptually, Where Dogs Run critically engage with political, social, ecological, and philosophical issues. From today’s perspective, their works Evaporation of the Constitution of the Russian Federation and Transcendence Index, created in 2017, tragically anticipated the future.
The collective has, among other distinctions, been repeatedly included in the program of ZKM Karlsruhe and was awarded the Prix Ars Electronica in the category Interactive Art in 2012.

Where Dogs Run

Der Kerosinpilz lebt in Kraftstofftanks und ernährt sich von Kerosin und Diesel. Er ist eine der wenigen Spezies, die von den technologischen Entwicklungen der Menschheit profitiert haben. Eine besondere Eigenschaft des Pilzes ist, dass er den Geruch des Benzins verändert, in dem er lebt. Das Künstlerkollektiv "Where Dogs Run" nutzte dies als Ausgangspunkt für ein Projekt, in dem sie eine Situation modellierten, bei der die chemische Interaktion zwischen Pilz und Maschine es Robotern ermöglicht, miteinander chemisch zu kommunizieren.
